The Keyes High School for Girls which was originally known as the Girl's Patashala was established in 1881 at a time when girls' education was considered not only unnecessary but also positively harmful.
Mr. Vegugopal Pillai, who started this School deserves to be remembered as one who has rendered immense service to the cause of Girls Education.
In 1930 this school was raised to the status of a High School due to the untiring efforts of Dewan Bahadur C.V. Padma Rao Mudaliar. It was in 1932 that the School sent the first batch of students for H.S.L.C. Public Examinations.
The School has an excellent record of first classes. In 1955-56 according to the recommendation of the Secondary Education Commission, this school was raised to the status of Higher Secondary Multipurpose School. At present the school prepares the students for the Secondary School Certificate Examination.
